We are pleased to
announce that the “Project Light On For Hope” event at the
Virginia Beach concert raised $1,850 for David’s Race for Hope team,
which benefits the National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain
Cancer Cure. It was an amazing display of support for the cause and for
David, as fans who had gathered from near and far simultaneously turned
on purple “’Til There’s a Cure” glow sticks. Thank you to everyone who
participated.
We
wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that “Project Light On
for Hope” will be the last event organized by the leaders of Cook Fans
Conquering Cancer for a little while. Not too long ago, we asked our nearly 700 members to
complete a survey to guide the group’s future efforts. They spoke, and
we have listened. The members of Cook Fans Conquering Cancer, have
stated that they wish for the group to only continue on with activities
when David has an official Foundation formed or when he has a
charitable event that he is officially participating in or endorsing.
And it looks like David is starting to do this, as his participation in
the Race for Hope and the “Permanent” charity single for ABC2
demonstrates. So, as Cook Fans Conquering Cancer, we will pause and
await David’s further, official direction.
Thank you to the hundreds of members of Cook Fans Conquering Cancer for their tremendous support & activism this past eleven months. We are so proud of all that we have accomplished together:
- Raising nearly $30,000 for the American Cancer Society
- Contributing
$2,000+ to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through the CFCC team,
Cook Fans Unite2Fight, who walked in the Pinellas Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society Light The Night Walk, where Lindsey Rose served as the
Hero of Hope.
- Thanking David for his support of the fight
against cancer with a Quilt of Thanks made with the pediatric oncology
patients at All Children’s Hospital
- Recognizing David as a
leader in the fight against cancer with a frame presentation at Good
Morning America with personal letters from the American Cancer Society,
the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and All Children’s Hospital.
- Taking on Joey’s favorite cause, the American Diabetes Association, with nearly $1,000 raised
- Helping the PB/DCO team raise $13,000+ for Stand Up to Cancer
- Launching
David’s Shadow Buddy with 46 David Cook dolls purchased thus far for
All Children’s Hospital
- Supporting the Race for Hope with 355
members on David Cook’s team raising $113,000+ -- and an amazing 116
members in Washington, D.C. to participate in the Race along with
another 15 who volunteered on race day
We urge everyone to please continue on the philanthropic journey to help eradicate cancer!
The Cook Fans Conquering Cancer Facebook group
will remain open, but there will not be any updates made or
announcements sent out unless there is an official charitable project
that David is supporting.
Thank you, as always, to everyone for helping to conquer cancer.
While
we wait for official word from David, the five leaders of Cook Fans Conquering Cancer will continue to
support other charitable projects near and dear to our hearts. Here are
a few projects we are working on, if you want to keep up with us:
